Graduation Chairs Tied with White Ribbons

Rows of dark wooden chairs line the wet concrete walkway of a schoolyard in Medellin, their backs bound with crisp white ribbons fluttering slightly in the humid air. Late afternoon skylight spills across the polished floors of the adjacent building, illuminating stacks of open books and scattered papers on low tables. The dry season has left the surrounding pavement cracked and dusty, against the recent rain that dampens the lower edges of the chairs. Layers of depth recede as the chairs multiply into the distance, creating a rhythm of empty seats waiting for a ceremony. One ribbon end rests against a metal leg, catching the soft, diffused light before the scene fades into the shadowed corridor.
