First light breaks over a narrow Fukuoka alleyway where recent rain has left the asphalt slick and reflective. Water droplets rest on the deep green fern fronds growing from a crack in the concrete wall, catching the soft morning glow. A rusted iron hook protrudes from the brickwork above a row of closed storefront shutters, hinting at past commerce. The street is empty of people but full of the quiet evidence of the storm. Reflections of distant neon signs blur on the wet ground, mixing with the natural green of the plants.
