Fruit Baskets in Quito

A narrow alley in Quito’s historic center glows with the amber spill of streetlamps against colonial stucco, where a local vendor arranges wicker baskets filled with fresh chirimoya fruit on a weathered wooden crate. Sun-bleached canvas tarps, previously shielding goods from the day’s heat, are folded and tied to the wrought-iron railing above, catching the last violet hints of the summer sky. Leaf shadows from a nearby jacaranda stretch across the tiled floor, intersecting with the warm tungsten glow reflecting off wet cobblestones.
