Forklift Tracks in Grain Elevator Concrete

Hard white light floods the interior of a grain elevator near Tangier, illuminating a long warehouse corridor where heavy machinery has carved deep, parallel furrows into the gray concrete floor. The surface is rough and pitted, stained with decades of dust and oil residue that rests on the grooves of the forklift tracks. Tall steel walls rise on either side, their cold metallic surfaces reflecting the diffuse brightness from the high windows. The light creates stark, sharp shadows that define the depth of the worn paths. Fine particles of grain dust coat the lower edges of the steel beams, settling into the crevices of the floor.
