Flickering Candle Draft Stone Corridor Gaziantep
by Cathy Sharpe
Pale late-afternoon skylight floods a narrow stone corridor, bouncing off weathered pale walls to illuminate a heavy wooden table. One wax candle stands at the center, its flame dancing sharply to the left as a draft moves through the space. Dust motes hang suspended in the bright beams, settling on the rough grain of the wood. Condensation beads form a thin, irregular ring around the base of a nearby glass tumbler, signaling the cool early spring air against the warmth of the room. The candle wax has melted unevenly, dripping in thick, translucent ridges down the side of the yellow pillar. A shadow from the flame stretches long and thin across the dusty surface, ending abruptly at the edge of the table where the stone floor begins. The glass tumbler sits slightly tilted, its condensation reflecting the flickering orange light in a distorted, shimmering line.
