First Light in Durban at As First Light Reaches The Scene

Early morning sunlight strikes the concrete seawall of Durban’s North Beach, illuminating a makeshift levee structure built from stacked plywood sheets and heavy sandbags. Beside this flood defense, a small marine science field station sits on pilings over the clear, shallow tidal water. A local vendor stands near the barrier, holding a glass of red wine up to catch the rising sun’s glare. The intersection of coastal infrastructure, scientific research, and casual daily life along the Indian Ocean coast, with the bright light reflecting off the wet concrete and the calm water below.
