File Boxes in Palermo

A sun-drenched corner of a historic Palermo palazzo features a weathered stucco wall where dappled leaf shadows dance across the rough, cream-colored plaster, cast by an overhanging fig tree. Leaning against the wall is a faded blue metal mailbox, its paint chipped to reveal rust, standing next to a stack of three white plastic file boxes that look out of place in this architectural setting. Above them, a single bright pink hydrangea blooms from a cracked terracotta pot, its soft petals against the hard stone. The bright late morning light catches the edge of a straw hat resting on the top box, its woven texture sharp against the smooth plastic.
