A narrow brick alleyway in Amsterdam during a summer evening glows with the warm light from a canal house window. Several colorful flowerpots line the stone steps leading to a heavy wooden door, their vibrant reds and yellows against the darkening sky. A rusty metal gate handle gleams slightly in the fading light. Next to the entrance, a wire basket tray from a parked bicycle rests against the wall, containing a few loose vegetables.
