Entrance Hall in London
by Angel Wong
Bright late morning light floods the narrow entrance hall of a Georgian townhouse in Bloomsbury, illuminating a worn wooden bench against cream-painted plaster. A brass wall sconce stands unused, its glass shade catching the sun, while a steel boot scraper rests near the door, coated in fine red dust from the street. On the bench, a pair of dark wool trousers shows a cluster of lint near the hem, next to a damp overcoat. Through the open front door, the street outside is visible, with a neighbor watering a window box of flowering plants. The quiet transition between the damp exterior and the dry, warm interior, anchored by the textures of fabric, metal, and aged wood.
