The early autumn air is visible in the crispness of the light, where the blue of the evening contrasts with the fire's heat. Dust motes hang suspended in the narrow beams of candlelight. The final ember cracks and sinks, leaving a rim of red-hot coal resting on the blackened grate, marking the end of the day.
