Elderly Woman in Lisbon
by Omar Pace
Under the sodium-orange spill of a Lisbon streetlamp, a small pastel blue trolley car ascends a steep cobblestone slope, its interior glowing with warm yellow light. Inside, an elderly woman in a floral dress grips a brass handrail, her white slippers resting casually on the metal step ledge. Through the rear window, the dark silhouette of the Tagus River reflects the city’s scattered lights. A discarded skateboard leans against a tiled wall outside, illuminated by the passing tram’s headlights, while neon signs from a nearby pastel shop cast soft pink and green reflections on the wet pavement. The quiet rhythm of nighttime transit, blending the historic architecture with the casual clutter of daily life.
