A heavy rain has just stopped in Durban, leaving the pavement of the eThekwini Metro station slick and reflective under the early evening sky. A blue and yellow Metro train pulls into the platform, its doors sliding open to release a crowd of commuters. The station walls are covered in vibrant, large-scale murals featuring local cultural motifs, which catch the fading natural light and the artificial station illumination. People hurry past, holding umbrellas or shielding themselves from the lingering drizzle, while others wait near the edge of the platform. The chaotic yet functional rhythm of public transport in South Africa, with the train's headlights cutting through the dimming light and reflecting off the wet concrete floor.
