Drying Off in Bergen
Rain-slicked cobblestones in Bryggen glisten under the pale, diffused light of a Norwegian morning, reflecting the vibrant yellow and red facades of the Hanseatic warehouses. A local fisherman in a heavy waxed jacket leans against a weathered wooden bollard, wiping condensation from his face with a rough cloth. Beside him, a plastic crate holds freshly caught cod, their silver scales dull under the overcast sky. The wet pavement mirrors the distorted shapes of the gabled roofs above, while a faint mist rests on the harbor edge. One red laundry line stretches across the narrow alleyway, holding damp wool socks that drip steadily onto the stone below, showing the cold, damp chill of the early hour.
