Drinking Tea in Cairo
by Jon Cain
A narrow Cairo alleyway glows under the amber spill of a streetlamp, illuminating a corner tea stall where two men sit on mismatched metal stools. One man, wearing a faded blue work apron, carefully pours steaming black tea from a tall silver teapot into small glass cups, the liquid catching the harsh overhead light. Beside him, a third man in a white galabeya rests his elbows on the small, scarred wooden table, waiting with a hand raised. The background is a blur of stacked cardboard boxes and hanging plastic bags, while the foreground focuses on the condensation on the glass and the rough texture of the man's hands.
