Douglas Fir Tree in Seattle

A weathered Douglas fir tree stands on the steep embankment of Pike Place Market, its bark textured by the relentless winter rain. The gray sky reflects in the puddles forming at the base of the trunk, while droplets rest on the sparse evergreen needles. Nearby, a rusted metal planter box holds dried ferns, against the wet stone pavement of the market walkway. Water drips steadily from a corrugated metal awning just above the root system.
