Domestic Clutter in Nice

Bright late morning light floods the narrow stone stairwell of Vieux Nice, illuminating a chaotic cluster of domestic clutter spilling from a second-floor balcony. A weathered boot scraper rests against the rough limestone wall, caked with dried mud from the cobblestones below. Beside it, a wicker knitting basket overflows with yarn, its lid askew. A striped towel hangs loosely from a rusted iron railing, catching the sun. Two glass tumblers sit on the step, one empty, one half-filled with water.
