Dock Scale Station with Ramps and Floor Jack in inside a warehouse aisle in Devonport, Auckland

Dock Scale Station with Ramps and Floor Jack

by Sharon Knapp

Pale morning light falls through heavy fabric curtains, washing the warehouse aisle in a cool, diffuse glow. A steel pallet scale station anchors the left third, its surface marked with faded tare labels and scuff lines from daily use. Two angled steel ramps lead up to the platform, their edges worn smooth by repeated tire contact. To the right, a floor jack rests on the concrete, its hydraulic piston gleaming with a thin layer of oil. Polished metal surfaces catch small, sharp highlights where the early summer dawn touches them. The concrete floor shows a history of grease stains and painted route lines guiding the flow of goods. A final scratch on the jack handle marks the exact point where a worker last gripped it before the shift began.
