Dawn Road Crew Shadows in Guiyang Gymnasium

Deep shadows pool across the polished concrete floor of a municipal gymnasium, broken only by a sharp rim of pale dawn light slicing through high windows. Four road crew members stand in a loose row, their bodies angled slightly inward. They lean heavily on long-handled shovels, heads bowed or eyes fixed on the floor. Their heavy work jackets, stained with autumn dust, hang loose on their frames. Behind them, rows of empty folding chairs stretch into the darkness, their metal legs catching faint glints of the rising sun. Late autumn air hangs still, visible as a slight haze near the floor. The workers' boots, scuffed and dark, anchor the composition at the bottom edge of the frame. One shadow stretches long and thin across the polished surface, ending abruptly at the edge of the light.
