Customer in Buenos Aires
by Kay Pittman
Warm late afternoon light spills through the open window of a crowded Buenos Aires cafe, illuminating a worn wooden table where a local customer pauses over a steaming cup of coffee. In the immediate foreground, a pair of metal kitchen tongs rests beside a stack of small ceramic plates, their blue floral patterns catching the amber glow of the sun. Through the glass, the blurred motion of a passing yellow taxi and the textured facade of a neighboring building with peeling paint provide distinct urban context. One sunflower in a chipped vase on the sill tilts slightly, its petals backlit by the setting sun as a shadow from the window frame sweeps across the table.
