Sunlight cuts through the open front of a bustling Taipei convenience store, illuminating a cluttered service counter where a clerk in a blue vest sorts through plastic bags. A half-empty jar of pickled cucumbers sits near the register, its glass surface catching a sharp, golden reflection from the overhead fluorescent tubes. Nearby, water rings from a recently finished iced tea stain the laminate counter, against the bright red signage of a local soda brand. In the background, a customer waits patiently, their shadow stretching across the tiled floor, while a small broom leans against the counter leg, bristles dusty and worn.
