Commuter at Dusk Light in Chicago

Under the gray overhang of a Chicago L station entrance, rain slicks the concrete landing where a commuter pauses, adjusting a bright yellow umbrella. Beside him, a red metal basket sits on the wet pavement, its wire mesh catching the amber spill from a nearby streetlamp. He wears worn brown slippers, an odd choice for the damp chill, and clutches a clear water bottle with a green cap. In the background, the blurred yellow stripe of a train disappears into the tunnel, while steam rises from a grate. The gritty, transient rhythm of the city at dusk, with the rain softening the harsh edges of the urban infrastructure.
