Cherry Blossoms Erupting from Faisalabad Street
by Brynn Hyde
Pink petals burst upward from jagged fissures in the gray concrete pavement, defying the monsoon season where the ground is usually wet and muddy. A symmetrical procession of picnic blankets stretches along the street in Faisalabad, where families sit beneath the impossible canopy of cherry trees. The setting sun casts long, soft shadows that stretch across the tiled walkways, illuminating the vibrant pink against the dull urban gray. Concrete cracks serve as the source for the sudden floral eruption, with clusters of blossoms pushing through metal grates and cracked tiles. The clear sky above holds the last light of day, bathing the surreal scene in a warm, ethereal glow that highlights the texture of the petals against the rough, wet stone. One reflection of a pink flower rests in a puddle near the center of the composition.
