Charleston Candle Vigil Under Floodlights

Blue hour twilight washes the stone plaza of a Charleston government square where a public vigil gathers beneath harsh floodlights. Rows of small candles flicker against the encroaching darkness, their flames casting warm orange halos on the wet pavement. Paper leaflets skitter across the ground in gusts of wind, their white surfaces catching the artificial light before settling near feet clad in early spring coats. The low angle view emphasizes the towering columns of the building above, framing the collective presence of the crowd. Shadows stretch long and sharp across the stone, while the flames tremble slightly in the breeze, creating a rhythmic dance of light and shadow on the faces looking upward.
