Charcoal Brazier in Nairobi

A vendor stands behind a makeshift stall on a Nairobi roadside, the air thick with the blue haze of burning charcoal from a small brazier. String lights draped haphazardly above illuminate a chaotic arrangement of goods, including a bright patchwork quilt folded over a crate of mangoes. The vendor, wearing a wide sun hat to shield from the fading summer sun, uses a metal trowel to adjust the embers, sending sparks into the twilight. Behind him, kitchen shelves stacked with colorful ceramic pots and plastic containers line the wall of a nearby shop, their glaze catching the warm glow of the overhead bulbs.
