Ceramics in Porto at Evening Light
by Sophia Head
Golden hour light spills across a narrow Azulejo-clad alley in Porto, illuminating a weathered wooden door framed by peeling green paint and tangled ivy vines. A small, mismatched clay pot sits on the stone threshold, overflowing with bright geraniums that catch the warm glow. Beside it, a faded blue and white porcelain jar rests on a low brick step, its glaze reflecting the ambient street light. The scene is anchored by the rough texture of the limestone pavement and the smooth, cool surface of the ceramic, creating a tactile contrast between the organic ivy and the manufactured pottery. Shadows lengthen across the tiled wall, showing the depth of the narrow passage and the lived-in history of the building.
