Ceramic Wares in Guadalajara

by Tim Bradford

Blue hour settles over a Guadalajara street corner where the sodium vapor streetlights begin to compete with the fading violet sky. A small family-run shop displays its wares on a corrugated metal shelf just outside the entrance, illuminated by a harsh, warm spill from a single bulb. Visible on the shelf are several white porcelain jars with chipped glaze and a few stacked serving bowls, their surfaces reflecting the artificial light. A shopkeeper, partially obscured by the doorway's shadow, leans against the frame, watching the street.
