First light falls through the wet canopy of a Durban palm, casting dappled leaf shadows across the glossy, rain-slicked tiles of a sidewalk café patio. The air hangs heavy and cool, reflecting the soft, diffused gray of the overcast sky. A wooden table holds a half-empty glass of water, condensation beading on its surface, while a discarded newspaper lies curled slightly at the edges from the dampness. In the background, the blurred outline of a minibus taxi idles, its headlights cutting through the mist.
