The gray light of nautical dawn washes over the busy port of Izmir, Turkey, where the water is calm and reflects the silhouettes of docked vessels. A traditional Chinese junk with battened sails is moored near the quay, its distinct rigging standing out against the mist. On the nearby stone pier, a local vendor arranges a tray of onigiri wrapped in nori on a wooden cart, steam rising gently into the cool air. Nearby, a man in a worn coat holds a kite reel, preparing for the morning wind while watching the harbor activity.
