Wet cobblestones in a quiet Merida courtyard reflect the pale, diffused sky of early morning, their surface slick with recent rain. A brown dog stands near a weathered limestone wall, its fur dark with moisture, sniffing at the base of a wooden gate where rust has eaten through the latch. To the side, a simple ladder-back chair sits empty on the damp stone, one leg slightly tilted, as if abandoned mid-use. Nearby, a pair of pruning shears rests on a mossy step, blades closed, surrounded by scattered green clippings.
