A brass doorknob mounted on a weathered mahogany door in a Tribeca townhouse catches the sharp afternoon sun. The polished metal reflects a distorted, golden arc of the street outside, against the deep brown wood grain. A heavy iron key rests in the lower keyhole, its metal surface dull and scratched from years of use. Dust motes dance in the beam of light that falls across the doorframe, highlighting the texture of the peeling paint.
