Morning light spills across a weathered concrete balcony in Tainan, illuminating a cluster of vibrant pink bougainvillea blooms that cascade over a rusted iron railing. Below, the narrow alleyway reveals peeling lime-green paint on traditional shopfronts, their wooden shutters partially raised to greet the day. One scuffed work stool sits abandoned near a doorway, its paint chipped to reveal gray wood beneath. The sun catches the edge of a faceted glass jar on a nearby windowsill, throwing a sharp, prismatic beam onto the damp pavement.
