Under the flat glare of noon, a thick district heating pipe crosses between two concrete apartment blocks in Boston, Massachusetts. The heavy industrial infrastructure cuts across the frame, against the residential brickwork and white window frames typical of the neighborhood. Shadows fall sharply beneath the pipe, showing the harsh midday sun. A few glass bottles sit discarded near the base of the building, catching the bright light.
