Bologna Basket at Noon Light
by Colin Stein
Sunlight slices through the bare branches of a sycamore, casting sharp, leafless shadows across the terracotta tiles of a narrow Bolognese alleyway. The winter noon sun is low enough to create long, geometric contrasts against the warm, ochre stucco walls. A pair of worn leather slippers sits abandoned on the step of a closed bakery, hinting at a hurried departure or a brief rest. The rough texture of the aged brickwork meets the smooth, glazed ceramic of the pavement, while a single, forgotten woven basket rests against a rusted iron hook mounted on the wall, its fibers frayed from years of exposure. The quiet, lived-in reality of the city, where everyday objects blend seamlessly into the architectural fabric.
