Beer Glasses in Hanoi
Under the neon bleed of a Hanoi street corner, a plastic stool nestles beside a cracked concrete pillar, illuminated by the harsh white glare of a nearby convenience store sign. Two scratched glass tumblers sit on a low wobbly table, one half-filled with amber beer, the other catching a sharp reflection of a passing motorbike’s headlight. A faded tea towel, stained with oil and dust, is draped over the back of a rusted metal chair, its frayed edges trembling slightly in the exhaust-laced breeze. In the background, the blurred red taillights of traffic streak across the wet asphalt, while a handwritten Vietnamese menu board hangs crookedly from a bamboo pole, its characters glowing under the sodium vapor light.
