Pale gold rim light cuts across the edge of a weathered wooden bench where a beekeeper sits in deep shadow. The figure wears a heavy wool winter coat and a protective hood, hands folded against the chest in a fixed, still posture. Dry leaves skitter across the dusty courtyard ground, caught in sudden gusts that ripple the sparse, brown vegetation clinging to low walls. A gray sea glimmers faintly in the background negative space, against the dark, textured silhouette of the worker against the brightening horizon. The heavy fabric of the coat rests against the bench slats, and the shadow falls across the subject's face, leaving only the outline visible against the cool dawn light.
