Beach Towel in Marseille
Under the flat, high-noon glare of Marseille, a sun-bleached beach towel in faded cobalt and white is draped over the wrought-iron railing of a balcony overlooking the Vieux-Port. The fabric hangs limp, lacking wind, its synthetic sheen against the rough, salt-stained limestone facade of the building. Below, the harbor is a mosaic of hulls and masts, rendered in muted grays by the harsh overhead light. One ceramic carafe stopper, chipped and terracotta-colored, sits on the ledge beside the towel, anchoring the domestic intrusion into the public view. A quiet, suspended moment of leisure, where the bright, artificial color of the towel cuts through the dusty, historic tones of the Mediterranean architecture.
