Basil at First Light

First light falls through the heavy velvet curtains of a cramped Budapest kitchen, illuminating a worn wooden table scarred by decades of use. One copper pot sits near the window, its surface reflecting the soft, gray-blue diffused light of the post-rain morning, while a few fresh basil leaves rest on a chipped ceramic tile nearby, their green vibrant against the muted tones. Raindrops rest on the windowpane, blurring the view of the damp cobblestone street below, where the faint outline of a passing tram can be seen.
