Balcony Rail in New Orleans

Under the amber sodium glow of a French Quarter streetlamp, a wrought-iron balcony rail curves into the frame, its intricate scrollwork casting sharp, geometric shadows against the peeling stucco wall behind it. A faded turquoise towel hangs loosely over the rail, its frayed edge catching the damp night air, while below, a solitary wooden stool sits abandoned on the cobblestone pavement, bearing the scuff marks of years of use. Steam rises faintly from a nearby café vent, softening the harsh neon spill from a distant sign that reflects in a puddle of rainwater.
