Backer Rod Shelf Inspection in Colina
by Silas Reeves
Soft gray light falls through a low-lying fog that pools in the depressions of the Colina landscape. A worker stands with their back to the camera, wearing a high-visibility vest over dark work trousers. They hold a long, cylindrical foam backer rod against the rough, unfinished edge of a concrete building frame. The foam is a pale, matte beige, set against the wet, dark gray aggregate of the wall. Rain has left the concrete surfaces slick and darker near the base. In the background, the skeletal steel and concrete of the building shell rise quietly into the mist. The worker's gloved hand grips the rod firmly, aligning it with the gap in the masonry. Water droplets rest on the edge of the foam cylinder, resting on the worker's boot. The stillness holds a discipline typical of a brief pause in construction work.
