Under the flat, diffused light of an overcast midday in Accra, a local artisan stands on a red plastic step stool to reach the upper pane of a shopfront window. The stool’s bright color contrasts with the weathered grey concrete of the building facade and the faded yellow paint of the window frame. Below, on a low wooden crate, sits a woven basket containing fresh hibiscus flowers, their deep crimson petals vivid against the muted surroundings. A wooden ladder leans casually against the adjacent wall, its rungs worn smooth by use.
