Arranging Chocolates in Bilbao
by Ruby Hodges
Sunlight floods the narrow stone corridor of Bilbao’s Old Quarter, illuminating a cluster of white folding tables arranged outside a traditional txokolategi. A local woman in a dark apron leans over the nearest table, her hands moving with practiced speed as she arranges small, glossy chocolate boxes. Beside her, a brass measuring spoon ring hangs from a hook, catching the harsh afternoon glare. The rough, aged limestone walls contrast sharply with the smooth, polished metal of the utensils and the bright white plastic of the tables. In the background, the deep blue shadow of a doorway frames a glimpse of the busy street beyond, where pedestrians in light summer clothing hurry past.
