Muted golden light from a low spring sun pools across the concrete floor of a command post near Lodz. Heavy olive-drab road wheels lean against a trench wall beside a service pit. Metal tool boards mounted on the walls hold rows of wrenches and maintenance gear. Drip pans sit beneath the vehicle chassis, catching the faint reflection of the setting sun. The concrete surface shows scuff marks and oil stains, at the base of the space in active use. Long shadows stretch across the bay, aligning with the leading lines of the service pit. A final streak of amber light rests on the rim of a spare tire.
