A traditional Dutch houseboat rests quietly in the dark waters of an Amsterdam canal, its windows glowing with warm interior light against the midnight sky. Autumn willows with yellowing leaves drape low over the water's edge, their reflections shimmering on the wet surface. The brick facades of adjacent canal houses rise steeply, their gabled roofs silhouetted against the night. One streetlamp casts a soft pool of light on the cobblestone quay, highlighting the texture of the wet stones.
