Beside it, a cluster of colorful majolica tiles adorns the wall, their crazed glaze catching the warm late afternoon glow. A small, rusted nickel latch on the adjacent shutter reflects a sharp highlight, against the matte plaster. Above, laundry lines stretch across the gap, holding damp sheets that flutter slightly in the breeze.
