Alexandria Dog at Late Morning Light in in Alexandria, Egypt

Alexandria Dog at Late Morning Light

by Reginald Gardner

Bright late morning light floods a narrow side street in Alexandria, illuminating a weathered blue wooden door slightly ajar. Leaning against the doorframe is a faded red terracotta pot, its rim chipped, holding a sparse, drought-resistant flowering plant with dusty green leaves. Beside the pot, a small, scruffy stray dog rests on the sun-baked concrete, its fur bleached by the intense heat. The wall behind shows peeling white paint over rough stucco, with a rusted metal towel hook protruding awkwardly near the base. A sliver of a dark blue mailbox is visible on the adjacent wall, against the warm tones of the stone.
