Afternoon Light on Woman

Sunlight strikes the curved glass facade of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, casting sharp geometric reflections onto the wet pavement of the waterfront promenade. A young woman in a vibrant yellow rain slicker walks briskly past the entrance, her movement blurred against the static architecture. Leaning against a steel bollard near the water’s edge, a single colorful kite rests on the ground, its tail tangled slightly in the breeze. The scene is framed by the distinctive red brickwork of the adjacent heritage buildings, against the modern steel railings. A discarded paper cup sits near a drain grate, catching a glint of afternoon light.
